Obviously there are going to be some issues everywhere, but to say that this is because Aggies are discriminatory is not fair. It depends on the person, and is not a value of the school. To be clear, I am not religious or a Republican and I have never felt targeted by anyone. As long as you do not make these things the only part of your identity the VAST majority of people aren’t going to care.
I’m not saying this is a bad thing, but there are people whose personalities make them more apt to feel targeted. You have to know this about yourself and keep it in mind when choosing a school.
I have never heard direct examples of discrimination from Aggies, just that people “feel” discriminated against. This is something else to bear in mind. If you had more specific examples of instances, I feel it would mean more to the Anon in their decision. That way they could make their own judgement about such instances.
No one means to paint A&M as a picture-perfect school. No school is perfect. Stupid, racist, discriminatory people exist everywhere. All I wish to say is that Aggies are NOT more likely to be any of these than anyone else. Aggies are people, just like any other college students, and you will find all types of Aggies just as you will find all types of people. All I ask is that you don’t stereotype.
I have friends of all races and beliefs at A&M, and I have not witnessed nor heard from them any that they feel discriminated against. No one is going to ask you for your religious or political beliefs in casual situations. It’s not part of any introduction. Keep this in mind as well.
